SUPPORT FOR VISUALLY IMPAIRED STUDENTS

The Department of Mass Communication and Journalism and PG Department of English in collaboration with  Audio visual Club conducted a programme in support for producing a short film for visually impaired students, of perumpilavu , locality.

A visual impairment is any visual condition that impacts an individual’s ability to successfully complete the activities of everyday life. Students with visual impairments are infants, toddlers, children and youths who experience impairments of the visual system that impact their ability to learn.

The students of the Department encouraged the visually impaired students, by singing songs, interacting with them and distributing sweets. The inmates enjoyed the programme very much. The programme mainly intended to extend support and happiness for the upcoming film artists. Total number of students participated in the programme was 70.

PUBLIC SERVICE ANNOUNCEMENT

The Department of Mass Communication and journalism created a PSA, for giving awareness on some social prejudices, especially on the theme “Don’t judge a book by its cover”. A public service announcement is a message in the public interest disseminated without charge, with the objective of raising awareness of, and changing public attitudes and behaviour towards, a social issue.

The plot of the story begins with unseen characters throwing out their cloths away. At the first sight, the audience may misjudge that the characters in the movie are getting ready for sex. But in contrast, characters were children playing with clothes. Students from the department supported and cooperated with the initiative.

SHORT FILM : E-Lokham

The Department of Mass Communication and Journalism created a short film named E-Lokham,during the academic year 2015-2016. Each student of the final year, actively involved in the pre-production, production and post production stage. Planning(development and pre-production) In this stage the students work out a filmmaking idea and the story. The idea should be simple..Once they got the idea, they wrote a script and made storyboards or shot lists.

They chose a Perumpilavu Bus Stop as the location. All the properties were there itself so we shouldn't have to arrange any new properties. The public supported the shooting in a cooperative manner.

The plot of the film is completely based on the digital era and the youth. The two main young characters in the short film , who are best friends, are unaware that they both are waiting near in a bus waiting shed. This is because they are over using mobile phones. 21  participants were there in the entire process.
