Vanguard film festival 2026

 

The Association Inauguration of the PG Department of Journalism and Mass Communication was ceremonially inaugurated by renowned actress Shamla Hamza. The event marked an inspiring beginning for the academic year, with her presence adding significance and motivation for the students. She interacted warmly with the gathering and shared her experiences, making the programme memorable and meaningful.

 



Canopy Inter-Collegiate Photography Exhibition

 

The Canopy Inter-Collegiate Photography Exhibition was ceremonially inaugurated by N. Ubaid, acclaimed photographer, wildlife photographer, and artist, and former photojournalist with Keraleeyam, Deepika, and Rashtra Deepika. His presence and insights added depth and inspiration to the exhibition, encouraging students to explore visual storytelling and artistic expression through photography.


PHOTO WALK

The Photo Walk to Kozhikode was organized for Journalism students to practice street photography in a real-world setting. The session was led by sports photographer Muhammed Hilal, who guided students in capturing impactful and candid visuals. The experience helped students enhance their creativity, observation skills, and understanding of visual storytelling.

 


Research orientation

A research orientation programme was conducted for final year UG and PG students by Dr. Dhanya. The session aimed to introduce students to the fundamentals of academic research, including research methodology, topic selection, and ethical practices. The programme helped students understand the importance of research in higher education and guided them in developing critical thinking and analytical skills essential for academic and professional growth.


International Film Festival of Kerala (IFFK)

The whole department attended the International Film Festival of Kerala (IFFK) in 2025 as part of an academic exposure programme. The visit provided students with an opportunity to experience world cinema, interact with diverse narratives, and understand contemporary film trends. Through film screenings, discussions, and festival activities, students gained practical insights into visual storytelling, film criticism, and media culture. The experience enriched their academic learning and enhanced their appreciation for global cinema.


Bridge course

A bridge course was conducted for first-year students to help them smoothly transition into the academic environment of higher education. The programme focused on strengthening foundational knowledge, communication skills, and subject basics required for their course.Through interactive sessions, activities, and discussions, students were introduced to key concepts, learning methods, and academic expectations. The course also aimed at building confidence and improving adaptability among students. Overall, the bridge course served as a strong foundation, preparing students for their academic journey ahead.


Industrial visit to Kerala Kaumudi

The department students undertook an industrial visit to Kerala Kaumudi at Thiruvananthapuram as part of their academic curriculum. The visit provided valuable exposure to the internal functioning of a leading media organization. Students observed newsroom activities, editing procedures, and printing operations, gaining practical insights into the process of news production. Interaction with media professionals helped them understand real-world journalism practices and industry expectations.

The visit served as a meaningful learning experience, connecting classroom knowledge with professional media environments.


White cane documentary release

On the occasion of White Cane Day, a documentary produced by the department’s PG students was officially released. The documentary was created in association with the Kerala Federation of the Blind to raise awareness about the lives, challenges, and rights of visually impaired individuals.

The project provided students with hands-on experience in documentary production, including research, scripting, filming, and editing. It also highlighted the importance of inclusive storytelling and socially responsible media practices.

The release marked a meaningful initiative by the department, showcasing student creativity while contributing to social awareness and community engagement.


Audio donation camp

An audio donation camp was conducted as an extension and innovation programme by the department, in collaboration with the Kerala Federation of the Blind. The initiative focused on creating audiobooks for visually impaired students, promoting accessibility and inclusive learning through student participation.
