ASPEN - ONLINE QUIZ COMPETITION

The World Environment Day is celebrated every year on 5th June to raise global awareness to take positive environmental action to protect nature and the planet Earth. The Mathematics Department of Ansar Women's College had conducted an Online Quiz Competition among the college students on 5th June 2021 as a part of observing World Environment Day. The competition was organized by first year Bsc Mathematics students. The teacher in charge was Ms Megha N.S (Asst. professor, Department of Mathematics) and the student coordinator was Manal Mohammed Ashraf (S2 Bsc Mathematics). 

The Theme of the quiz competition was "It's Time for Nature". It was the theme of World Environment Day 2020. The theme for World Environment Day 2021 is “Ecosystem Restoration”. Ecosystem restoration can take many forms: Growing trees, greening cities, rewilding gardens, changing diets or cleaning up rivers and coasts. This is the generation that can make peace with nature.  

The COVID-19 pandemic has spread around the world at lightning speed, killing hundreds of thousands of people and infecting millions. International scientists point to a direct link between the destruction of nature and disease outbreaks — spotlighting the role of protecting and restoring nature in preventing future pandemics. This shows the relevance of our theme in the current pandemic situation. For this occasion, the students had published the brochure of the competition on 1st June 2021 and circulated the brochure through the WhatsApp groups. Google forms were provided for registration along with brochure and students were directed to submit the forms on or before 3rd June 2021. To ensure the sincerity of participants, limited time was provided and no entries were accepted after the given time had passed. The entries should contain information like Name of the participant, department and semester.

The competition was conducted through google forms. Total 32 students participated in the competition. The results were announced on 9th June 2021 through WhatsApp groups of the college. Digital certificates were provided to the students who scored above 20. The winners were:

The students of various departments of the college actively participated in the competition. The main concept behind observing World Environment Day is to focus on the importance of the environment and to remind everyone that the environment should not be taken for granted.
