MATHEMATICS

Yet another academic year began on a subdued note due to Covid pandemic. The Department of Mathematics conducted an opening ceremony of the new academic year 2021-2022 on June 1st 2021 for the students of fifth semester BSc Mathematics virtually. The programme named “NUEVO COMIENZO” was scheduled in Google meet at 10:00 am. The program started with college prayer recited by Jiya M of S5 BSc Mathematics. The prayer was followed by a welcome speech by Ms. Shijula C.V (HOD, Department of Mathematics). Ms Shijula C.V in her speech motivated the students and told them that their will power and energy cannot be suppressed by the pandemic. She also added that the quality of learning will not suffer in the online platform. The class teacher of S5 BSc Mathematics Ms. Saritta C Godson had a few words with the students. She discussed the syllabus with the students and also motivated the students to ensure their active participation in academic and non-academic activities. All the teachers of Mathematics department addressed the students. The program continued with S5 BSc Mathematics students’ performances. Safuwa presented a PowerPoint about her bottle art and paintings. Aysha Nihidha presented her beautiful poem about lockdown and the changes it brought in her life. Jiya and Fiza sang melodious songs. Gladis P.G of presented her gardening videos and photos and shared her gardening techniques.

 The students’ performances were followed by an interactive session between teachers and the students. The students shared their concerns and also suggestions to make the online classes more effective. The students shared that they are having second year of online class. They also shared that in the online class they did face many challenges such as technical issues, time management, adaptability, lack of communication between students in the class and so and so. Finally they thanked the teachers for organizing such a programme so that they can have a bond with the teachers and their fellow friends even it is virtually. The program was organized well. The program was concluded by 11:00 AM.
